October - Planning your Outdoor Space

GreenRoots designers designs + expert installation are what set us apart from the rest. When our design team takes on a project we are considering the most important factors in creating an outdoor space. Your family’s needs and lifestyle. The flow from the highest traffic areas of your home into the backyard. The sustainability of the materials and construction of your project. And of course, the aesthetic and beauty of the plants, materials and design.

FACTOR 1

Your family’s needs and lifestyle

One of the first questions our designers will ask you at your initial consultation is how many members are in your close friends and family and how often you are entertaining them in your home. Is your house the gathering place for your community? Or are you looking for peace and quiet? We always design our plans with furniture so that you can actually enjoy the space. That means designing for hard seating, for dining, and soft seating, for relaxing. Believe it or not, this is a huge distinguisher from us and other designers. You would not believe how many patios we see that do not have space for furniture or just end up unusable because they were not designed with a purpose in mind!

FACTOR 2

Flow

Another way GreenRoots distinguishes themselves from other companies is the emphasis every designer puts on flow. Flow may be something you never thought about in an outdoor space, but you surely notice it when your outdoor space is lacking it. Is there no good way to get from your kitchen to your backyard? Or is there an obstacle from your door to your patio? Or is your grill and dining area too far from your indoor kitchen or an obstructed path? These are all part of flow. Removing obstacles between the inside and enjoying your outdoor space as easily and seamlessly as possible.

FACTOR 3

Sustainability

We offer warranties and stand by our work. And so sustainability is something you can trust we are as interested in as you are, (sometimes it seems even more so!) When we design + install patios, walkways, pools etc we are building what we believe will be sustainable for decades to come! We are taking the environment and your lifestyle into account when our designers are carefully designing and selecting materials that is best suited for you and your family.

FACTOR 4

Aesthetic

Obviously at the end of the day aesthetics are as critical to us to get right as almost anything else. When we design spaces we are excited about the potential for your property. We design spaces to be both functional and beautiful. We carefully choose materials that compliment each other. We mix textures in our hardscaping and our plantings. When it comes to designs the materials and constructs we use and build are carefully chosen to compliment your house and style. The planting is always the finishing touch on our designs and the natural beauty of nature always takes the aesthetic to the next level! Why compete with nature for beauty? That being said, planting can be too busy with too many different plants or where the flowers are competing with each other. That’s another way GreenRoots designers are set apart. We choose plants, trees and shrubs that play with each other and complement, not compete with their surroundings.

At the end of the day, why do you want an outdoor retreat? To be able to easily access a space that is tailored to your lifestyle where you can relax, play, gather or unwind surrounded by beauty for years to come.
