The Mushroom Festival is a Kennett Square community event that attracts visitors from all over the country to descend upon Kennett Square and celebrate all things Kennett Square and mushrooms! This event attracts over 100,000 visitors every year! It is a great community collaboration and being Kennett Square’s claim to fame, GreenRoots has to be a part of it every year!

We hope you will come out and visit GreenRoots fully built booth and peruse the hundreds of other vendors at the festival! Last I counted the vendor list was 199! The vendors range from local businesses, artisans and craftsmen from all over and tons of food options.

If you have never been to the Mushroom Festival, or it has been awhile, GreenRoots is officially inviting you to join in the Kennett Square celebration this year! This will be the 6th Mushroom Festival GreenRoots is participating in and so we have some tips to share to help you enjoy the day!

Tickets + Entrances:

Everyone 12 and older will need to purchase a wristband for entry to the festival. The wristbands are $5. The wristbands are good for both days of the festival
There are entrances at most of the cross streets so that you can enter easily from wherever you are coming from!

street parking + shuttles:

Street parking will be available but will be limited since there will be no parking where the festival is taking place.
There will be shuttles from Mushroom Festival parking lots. The parking areas with shuttling listed on the official Mushroom Festival website are at Chatham Financial (235 White Horse Lane) and Handicap Bus Available Kennett High School (100 E. South Street.) The Mushroom Festival parking provided at these locations are for a $5 donation. There will be a shuttle provided to and from the main festival area.

crowds:

The Mushroom Festival is a great community event that pulls in a crowd from all over the country! With that in mind, it can get very crowded! Plan your day around what you want to accomplish.
Some vendors will sell out of certain varieties of food or selections, so come early if you want the most selection.
Lunch time is the most crowded. If you want to avoid the crowd, avoid 12:00pm-1:00pm. But the crowd will come and go, so just do what works best for you!

rain or shine:

With the exception of extreme weather, the Mushroom Festival is rain or shine! Early September the weather can range from hot and sunny to cool and rainy, or anything in between!
If it’s calling for heat, make sure you plan to stay hydrated and cool. There are a lot of people and a lot of walking!
If it is calling for rain, do not let it keep you from enjoying the festival! While the kids’ activities and some outdoor only events would be altered, it’s a much less crowded time to enjoy the festival and spend more one on one time with vendors!

mushroom fest attire:

The Mushroom Festival brings out all kinds of different styles! There will definitely be a lot of people dressed in their best Mushroom garb! If you are a mushroom enthusiast, or love an occasion to dress on theme, break out the Mushroom inspired outfits!
There is a lot of walking at the festival. Typically you will want to walk the whole festival up one direction, and back the other. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the day!

Tip #1 is to come hungry!
There are so many food vendors to choose from! There will be food trucks from all over providing traditional festival food. As well as almost all of the local restaurants on State street will have booths with a sampling of their specialities and mushroom inspired menus.
You could get your appetizer, entree and dessert at a different booth and end up with quite a sampling!
My must do is pumpkin ice cream from Woodside Creamery and a hand pie from Nomadic pies, but everyone has their go to, there are so many great options!
