This season likely looks different than most. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t embrace the festive! An evergreen wreath brings all of “the feels.”
We have given this tutorial before, but while we are all staying home more than normal it seems like a great time to revisit and learn how to make a beautiful diy Christmas wreath that we can all make from the comfort of our own homes!
Supplies
What you will need to get the job done:
floral Wire
greens
finishing touch: pine cones, ornaments etc
wire wreath, or whatever you may have around
wire cutters
Greens
Greens are an essential but which kind you use is flexible. You can trim any evergreens on your property that are in need of a trim and use the trimmings to make something beautiful! Using a mixture of evergreens gives the most depth and character so ideally you can pull from at least 3 evergreen varieties.
Look for:
pine, boxwood, spruce, holly etc.
Build
Time to build! You will lose some needles during the build so create in a space that is easy to clean up.
Tie wire around wreath ring and twist the end to secure (do not cut the wire until completely finished.) If you do not have a wreath ring and don’t want to run out to get one, try to find something around the house.
Take a hand, a small bunch, that you arrange in your hand mixing all of the types of greens you have collected to add character and depth.
Wrap wire around the stems of the small bunch and wrap it around attaching it to the ring.
Add the small bunches to go around the entire loop.
Tuck the last bunch under the first.
Finish the greens by wrapping the wire around a few more times and twist to secure.
Add
Add the finishing touches to your wreath.
Arrange the pine cones or ornaments and wrap wire around addition around the wreath going through the branches and around the wire wreath.
Of course they are beautiful “plain” as well.
Add berries by sticking in between the secured greens. The berries are somewhat gentle so doing this last keeps as many berries as possible.
Finish
Decide what the top of the wreath is and add a wire loop to the metal ring for easy hanging.
Enjoy
Hang your masterpiece somewhere you can enjoy if for the season! Use it as a statement piece for your front door, a table centerpiece, handmade gifts or you name it!
